Newel Lewis Perry, blind from age 8, graduated from the University of Calif. in 1896 with a degree in mathematics, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Munich, Bavaria in 1901. In 1906 he co-founded the New York Association for the Blind (Lighthouse), and Outlook for the Blind. From 1934 to 1953, he served as president for California Council for the Blind.
